Just when amusement parks are becoming a dime a dozen in the metropolis, Enchanted Kingdom, the country’s first and only world-class theme park, whips up twelve new rides and events to celebrate its 12th anniversary this Christmas.
There’s always a new movie at the Rialto. This season’s offering stars SpongeBob Squarepants. In The Ride!, SpongeBob takes a trip down Bikini Bottom to chase an elusive pickle. Of course, the theatre’s motion seats make sure that guests feel every bump and turn. Although not the least bit heart-pounding as the Rialto’s previous action shows, The Ride! is perfect for kids and SpongeBob fanatics.
For a more adrenaline-pumping experience, head to Boulderville to play Triassic Tag. Instead of paint balls or compressed air, players use infra red light bullets. These bullets are detected by sensors worn on the head and on the gun. When a player is hit, his gun makes an “Ouch!” sound, indicating that he’s lost a life.
Once a player uses up five lives, all he has to do is run back to his base and ask to be “reborn.” What makes the game interesting is that for the next ten seconds after being “reborn”, a player can just fire away, without losing any lives no matter how many times he gets hit. Ian Meikle, game operator, enthuses, “This is a very safe game since there are no physical missiles that can hurt players.” The guns are heavy though, and kids may find them a bit unwieldy, but with all the running, ducking and firing, there’s hardly any time to feel the weight.
For water lovers, the park has a whole ship of surprises. Oliver’s Water Show of Switzerland has divers plunging down from a 25 meter platform. At one point, two divers even jumped down together, with their palms touching, but expertly splashing down separately. One diver even plunged down while he was on fire. Over at the 4D Discovery Theater, there’s Pirates 4D. The movie is in 3D, but even more, during the show, air and water are squirted to your face, making you feel as if you’re really there in the middle of all the swashbuckling.
If you’d rather take it easy, performers will be taking the stage this season – the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir and Actors, Actors, Inc., Trumpets Theatre, magician Lou Hilario, The Bloomfields, and Bamboo. Over at the newly-opened Santa’s Enchanted Emporium, kids can have their pictures taken with Santa. Other events include the Purefoods Jr. Chefs Festival Christmas Edition (a cooking demo) and even an Xtreme Sing Along Challenge. Finally, nothing spells “Enchanted” better than the Sky Wizardry Fireworks Show at closing time.
Of course, the good old attractions are still on hand- there’s Anchors Away, Space Shuttle, Wheel of Fate, and the Grand Carousel. Just be sure to double-check the schedules as some rides, like the Kart Trak, close early. Also, bring a full change of clothing as you’ll be kneeling and rolling on the ground for the Triassic Tag game, and drenched with water at Rio Grande and at the Jungle Log Jam.
I'm looking for Enchanted Kingdom.
